About Leighton Mendez, PA-C
Leighton Mendez is a certified Physician Assistant practicing clinical medicine in Women’s Health and Gynecology. She completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences from Northern Arizona University and then went on to earn a Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies from A.T. Still University in Mesa, Arizona. We are proud to say she completed her externship at McDowell Mountain Gynecology prior to graduation. As part of her Master’s degree, she moved to southern Georgia for a year to provide medical care to rural and underserved communities. This experience was life changing and helped shape the medical provider she is today and continues to become.
Leighton is passionate about Women’s Health and using the practice of medicine as a tool to change the narrative for medical inequities, and to heal the mind and body. She strives to create lasting connections with patients by offering a safe space for open communication, honesty and vulnerability. She believes that empowering women is the best way to combat the social stigmas that are often ascribed to female reproductive and women’s health. Leighton regards health and wellness as deeply personal. She is a proponent of ensuring that patients are equipped with the knowledge and tools they need to make decisions. She believes that encouraging patients to make their own choices regarding their bodies and health is the best way she can advocate for their well-being. Her motivation for helping women navigate the intricacies of personal well-being stem from Leighton’s personal experience as a patient in multiple gynecological offices. She knows first-hand how intimidating women’s health can be and wants to create positive and safe environments for her patients. Leighton is excited to continue serving the Arizona community and embraces patients of all backgrounds. She celebrates cultural diversity and takes great responsibility in honoring the unique needs of each and every patient.
Leighton is an Arizona native and was born and raised in Chandler. She briefly lived in Colorado after finishing her undergraduate degree, but was drawn back to her home in the heat and has plans to stay indefinitely. She has a Weimaraner named Gunner who she absolutely adores. Leighton is close with her family and enjoys spending time with them on weekends. She also enjoys traveling, learning about different cultures, reading, and exploring new culinary delights.
